CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Walthers has always been very involved with our various local communities, and are more than happy to facilitate whatever level of involvement our clients are willing to consider.

Walthers major project is the Ezweni Primary school, which is located in a rural area on the outskirts of the Kruger National Park. It is the only English medium school in the area and due to its English language tuition policy, is designated a “private school” and receives no Government support.

Employment opportunities in this community are very low and as a result, funding the school from the €15 monthly school fees is a huge challenge. Raising funds for school improvements is an extremely slow process. Some 10% of the pupils are HIV/Aids orphans and pay no contribution to school fees.

With the support of KPMG Meijburg and some of our other corporate clients, the last 10 years have seen the building of Enviro-Loo waterless toilets, and the drilling of solar powered boreholes to provide clean drinking water to the school which has no access to running water, existing classrooms have been refurbished, and a computer centre and double storey classroom block plus other additional classrooms have been added.

By giving the school access to water and better facilities, the students will receive a full education from the age of 4 to 18, giving them the opportunity to qualify for Tertiary education, and thereby a better future.

Walthers charges no fee for the facilitation of any CSR projects.

Four of our six SITE Crystal Awards were won in the category of Sustainability.
